Vote of Confidence

An old French proverb comes to mind," plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose”-- “The more things change, the more they remain the same.” ‘Change’ by itself is very difficult to impose. The basic human traits are deeply rooted and any change requires a lot of time, persistence, and unwavering perseverance. If we observe a broad sense of reality, things appear always in motion but the inherent cause for the change and the result, though appears in a different form, remains the same. In history and now, the reasons for the rise and fall of different empires, causes of war, the cycle of pandemics can always be attributed to the same basic human traits and behavior. Our political system has got different names over the course of time but the characters and the overall play of the politics remain the same. From monarchy to the Federal Democratic Republic, the greed, corruption, apathy, and the callousness that crept our leadership has stayed the same. As the country is fighting ...

Random thoughts in the time of Corona

As uncomfortable as it is the truth must be told. While patients are suffocating to death and their relatives desperately looking for beds in the hospital, our politicians face no such trouble, and the sufferers, by all means, are the normal people. For them, a single phone call is enough to reserve the most comfortable and luxurious cabin in Norvic or Grande whose bill would be taken care of by the national treasury. One has to understand what is unfolding here is more than a crisis induced by the COVID. It is the manifestation of the incompetence and indifference shown by the present and past government of our country. But we often forget that we too are accomplices and are equally to be blamed if not more for this ramification. When calculated demolition of institutional safeguards was designed, the so-called intellectuals not even acquiesce, rather they fervently championed the cause with the party's flag on one's hand. The consequence was so devastating that the most r...

Dr. Govinda KC: an obdurate dissident or a revolutionary hero?

Image
With Dr. Govinda KC’s hunger strike reached the sixteenth day today, vexation is mounting all over the country. Resident doctors have warned to call it quits by Friday if the government did not listen to KC’s demand; social media is flooded with the sharp debate and opinion of his admirers and detractors. Some see him as an obdurate dissident who tries to trample on the laws and the norms of a governmental institution; many others hail him as a revolutionary hero, an anti-corruption meliorist, a staunch defender of The National Medical Education Bill. For the first time, I saw Dr. KC in the Dishanirdhesh show hosted by Vijay Kumar several years ago. Dressed in incongruous white shirt and pant, taciturn by nature, I portrayed him as a reticent orthopedic surgeon who lives a nonconformist lifestyle and shows diffidence on many aspects of life; but on the central question of the reformation in the health sector, he was very adamant. By the time, no one had thought that this thin, b...

Toughest trial of Weak Interaction

Image
Abstract: How the riddle of beta decay was solved by Fermi? How weak interaction appeared in the realm of modern physics? Why weak interaction faced series of amendments and how the problem was solved? I would try to find answer to these questions . It has been more than eighty years since Enrico Fermi informed the world that there exists a weak interaction by his famous nuclear beta decay theory, yet its importance has not faded. Various changes and modifications have been made to Fermi’s weak interaction theory during the process of formulation of Standard Model but still the fundamental idea of Fermi serves as a core part of this model. Now it is known that not only beta decay, most of the elementary particles such as muons, kaons, pions and hyperons decay via weak interaction. Years of Conundrum By the end of 1920, it was evident that there was something strange about beta decay. Alpha and gamma rays, which were also the nuclear byproduct like beta rays, had...
